Why did we invest in Entri?

The education market has a latent need for learning in their own language. So far, the majority of internet platforms have targeted English as a medium but, as Tier-2 markets come online, the largest untapped opportunities in ed-tech are from non-English states.

Over 400 million people (between 18-35 years of age) in India are not proficient in English and thus, have limited access to employment opportunities. However, with the right kind of learning in their mother tongue, they could significantly improve their chances to be employed. These individuals lack access to quality content that is structured in their local language which can help them upskill to meet requirements for a government or a private job.

Entri has solved this by developing a vernacular learning platform to improve employability chances for individuals. A local-language Netflix for learning, with a clear goal to help users find a job.

The platform provides different content like videos, PDF notes, mock exams, and even podcasts in a variety of regional languages. Entri runs a variety of programs across its product:

  • Crash Courses

    • A set of recorded videos, mock exams and study cards packaged as a crash course which users can purchase for a nominal fee of 1000 rupees ($ equi) and upskill within 45-60 days.

    • The objective is to provide a comprehensive learning curriculum that users can flexibly work through basis their speed of comprehension.

  • Entri Gold

    • A cohort-based program where a subject matter expert conducts in-person classes, in a local language. The students are provided with a study plan, tasks to complete, live classes along with individual attention and feedback.

    • Through this program, Entri has helped close to 5000 users to secure a job and thousands more are able to speak better English than they could before the program.

  • Entri Elevate

    • A placements-driven program where candidates are put through a rigorous cohort-based training process in a particular sought-after skill - such as coding, digital marketing or full stack web development - and then connected with corporate partners for jobs.

In addition to the focus on local language learning, Entri’s content generation engine coupled with a sales team that deeply understands the local markets have differentiated them from their competitors who have struggled to scale local language solutions and come at a significantly higher ticket price.

The company has seen incredible traction since our first investment in 2019. It’s head-start within the vernacular learning segment has provided it with exposure to more than 10 million registered users across all states with over half a million paid users. The app is now aiming to capture 10% of the market share in the next few years.

Entri penetrated deep into the 18-35 years job seekers market in Kerala with 5MN+ users so far, along with strong brand recognition. The app ensures affordability, with fee ranging between 1500-2000 (US$) for most of its courses. The app has 300k+ paying users in Kerala and has seen almost 10x topline growth in the last 2 years alone. In 2022, around 2000 rank holders in the lower division clerk exams of the Kerala Public Service Commission exams exclusively used Entri for their preparation. They are knowing delving deep into the market with courses in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu with an expanded focus on upskilling for private sector jobs in addition to government sector jobs.

Entri aims to help people land their dream jobs by empowering them with the right skill set and expert guidance, all in their own language. We’re incredibly excited to partner with them on their journey to build for India.
